7:30pm, Saturday 4 June
Immerse yourself in an evening of emotional exploration, from the deep and evocative to the delightful and quirky
This performance features three unique chamber music works from three distinctive composers.
Hear the whimsical and amusing tale of love and drama between cooking utensils, in Martinů’s La Revue de Cuisine. Adapted from his 1927 ballet, this suite for sextet is rich with dance music and jazz influences characteristic of the early to mid-twentieth century.
Witness Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet, an experimental and highly evocative piece composed by Gavin Bryars in 1971, that employs the power of repetition and evolving orchestral sounds to explore spirit and optimism.
Finally, Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence explores the emotional power of music, drawing audiences in with its striking yet melodic opening movement. First sketched during a trip to Florence, this stunning work arranged for string orchestra is not to be missed.

Tchaikovsky – Souvenir de Florence
3:00pm, Sunday 5 June
Opening with a celebratory brass fanfare, this dramatic and moving program brings a weekend of spectacular music to a close.
Strauss’s lyrical writing in his Suite for 13 Winds beautifully highlights the unique qualities of each wind instrument, in four rich and distinctive movements.
See three wonderful soloists shine in Telemann’s sparkling Concerto Grosso E Minor for flute, recorder and bassoon soloists accompanied by string orchestra.
The NT premiere of Black Dogs by celebrated Australian composer Iain Grandage is a dramatic and sublime finale to this program. Inspired by two friends who experienced periods of ‘mental fragility,’ Grandage’s stunning Black Dogs for guitar and strig quartet reflects on the unknown, unknowable workings of the mind.
