THE PEN & THE SWORD: WORDS IN WAR

Directed by Tony Rive

“…and now the Winter of the world with perishing great darkness closes in”.

In honour of the Centenary of World War One coming to a close, theatre ad absurdum proudly presents The Pen and the Sword at Brown’s Mart. Directed by Tony Rive, these readings commemorate the poetry of the ‘Great War,’ showcasing the standout poets of that era, while presenting a timely reminder on the effects of war.

With work from the likes of Banjo Patterson and Wilfred Owen, The Pen and the Sword explores the sentiments of conflict: from patriotism and comradeship to despair and loss. It also reminds us of humanity’s ability for art despite the hostility of the environment.

Using single voices and choral effects, the show will take the audience on a journey ranging across different cultures, bringing to life the written imagery that flourished during the four year struggle.
