SHAKESPEARE & SYMPHONY

Presented in association with Darwin Symphony Orchestra and Darwin Festival

Epic, romantic, and deeply human, this production reveals why Shakespeare’s stories continue to move audiences across centuries. Whether you’re a devotee of the Bard, a lover of symphonic music, or simply seeking an extraordinary night out, this world premiere is set to be a highlight of the 2026 Darwin Festival.

The works of Shakespeare have inspired some of the world’s most magnificent music, and this program celebrates that legacy with drama, beauty, and emotional depth. One of the Northern Territory’s most celebrated actors, Rob Collins, brings Shakespeare’s words vividly to life, weaving spoken performance through a program of masterworks.

Berlioz and Tchaikovsky explore the tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet, while the mischievous magic of Mendelssohn illuminates A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The program culminates with Darwin vocal ensemble Vocalective joining the orchestra for Vaughan Williams’ radiant Serenade to Music, which weaves Shakespeare’s own lyrical reflection on the power of harmony from The Merchant of Venice to music.

Under the musical direction of DSO Artistic Director/ Chief Conductor Richard Mills AO, this world premiere production brings together the richness of orchestral sound and the raw energy of live theatre. Brown’s Mart Artistic Director, Waanyi woman Yvette Walker, is joined by industry heavyweight, Shari Sebbens, star of The Sapphires movie and director of Top End Bub to curate and direct the magnetic Logie-nominated and FCCA-award-winning actor, Rob Collins, for this unforgettable immersive fusion of theatre and symphony.
