HONORARY ELDER - Dr Bilawara Lee OAM

Brown’s Mart is honoured to have Dr Bilawara Lee (Aunty B) as our Honorary Elder.

Brown's Mart has long been home to important Gulumerridjin Larrakia stories, artists and creatives. In 2023 Aunty B became our Honorary Elder and we deeply appreciate the ongoing leadership, advice and guidance that she provides.

Aunty B is a Senior Elder of the Larrakia Nation - Cubillo family. She is Larrakia Academic in Residence for Charles Darwin University, received an Honorary Doctor of Letter (Honoris Causa) in May 2023, and the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2024. Aunty B has published two books, Star Dreaming and Healing from the Dilly Bag and is one of the Aboriginal Specialists on the Podcast series “Ask the Specialist”.

"I feel very privileged to be the Elder for Browns Mart. As a Gurdimin-ba Bali, a Spirit Doctor, I believe that  artists provide food for the soul which allows the spirit to flourish and people’s personal vibration to rise, and this is critical for humanity in these very difficult times. Brown Mart is a wonderful enabling platform for First Nations artists to be able to immerse themselves in all areas of artistic expression, which is critical in keeping us connected to our country, culture, communities and our Ancestral Spirits. Browns Mart's program is a solid and safe vehicle which allows us to carry out cultural maintenance of our spiritual and cultural beliefs and practices – and I want to support Browns Mart and the wonderful work they do."
