Brown's Mart is a friendly and welcoming multi-performance space right in the heart of Darwin CBD. We have a range of venues available to hire at commercial, community, and partnership rates.

Please note many of our spaces book out well in advance, so we recommend getting in touch early to avoid missing out.

THEATRE STUDIO REHEARSAL ROOM COURTYARD

THEATRE

Brown's Mart Theatre:

The Theatre is a traditional black box style room, featuring a high pitched roof, raked ceilings with exposed timber trussing, and is surrounded on three sides by a mezzanine. Available for corporate events, including award ceremonies, movie screenings, and presentations, the theatre can be hired as seated, seminar, cabaret or cocktail-style.

The theatre is equipped with Lighting, Sound and AV equipment capable of accommodating a range of events and Theatre Productions.

The Theatre can be hired, pending availability, for the following:

Moveable Acromat seating banks - capacities ranging from 95 - 210

STUDIO

Brown's Mart Studio

The Studio is a fully equipped intimate performance space suitable for seated or dance floor performance, presentations, or workshop space. Offering a flexible space for workshops, live-streamed events, workplace seminars, or as an elegant exhibition space.

Features include:

Funky and fresh vibe
Seats around 60 - 75
Black box style room
450mm High Stage
Lighting and Sound Equipment

On Friday and Saturday nights this room becomes Happy Yess, a local original music organisation, and is generally unavailable for Hire.

Outside of these nights, the Brown's Mart Studio is available for hire through Brown's Mart.

REHEARSAL ROOM

The Rehearsal Room

Located in the Brown's Mart Administration block, The Rehearsal Room has a polished hardwood timber floor and pitched roof with a raked ceiling with exposed timber trussing, giving the room a grand impression of space. Ideal for workshops, workplace seminars, team planning and staff training days.

The Rehearsal Room has a maximum capacity of 30 people.

Access to Kitchenette with basic Tea and coffee facilites
Wireless Internet
TV available by request

The Brown's Mart Rehearsal Room is a versatile space, and can be used for the following:

Theatre production rehearsals or developments
Workshops

Please note: Hirers must provide their own Public Liability Insurance.

COURTYARD

Browns Mart Courtyard

The Browns Mart Courtyard is a paved area which is the heart of the Browns Mart Precinct. Offering a unique open-air experience for networking, social gatherings, or conference breakout sessions. Place a tab on the Brown’s Mart bar and enjoy a catered workplace event where guests can enjoy a beautiful relaxed environment on the edge of Civic Park

A White picket fence separates the Courtyard from Smith Street, The Darwin Bus Depot and Civic Park.

Over the years the Browns Mart Courtyard has housed many outdoor music and theatre events and it plays a big part in Darwin arts and cultural history.

Capacity: up to 200
Tables and chairs
Direct access to the Brown's Mart Bar
Accesss to ammenities
Dedicated smoking area

Please consider that Browns Mart is a licensed venue when planning your event, and BYO is not available.

The Brown's Mart Courtyard can be hired as an incorporation of your event in the Theatre, Rehearsal Room or Studio, or it can be hired separately for an out door event or function.

FREE ACCESS FOR ARTISTS

NT artists can access our rehearsal space and office free of charge. Brown’s Mart offers generous year-round discounts on venue hire costs to community groups and festivals, not for profits, and schools to ensure as many people as possible can use our four different spaces. Contact the Venue Hire Manager who can work closely with your organisation to support your event.
