For 2025 much-loved music producer James Mangohig has curated a diverse line-up of musicians representing many of the cultures that are at the heart of our local community.

For our long-time regulars this will be a familiar but refreshingly new version of your Friday afternoon favourite. For first-time Live on Fridays visitors, come and enjoy a different musical experience every week in our beautiful courtyard

Friday 4 April

Alice Cotton

Live on Friday regulars, songwriter Alice Cotton and guitarist Christian Carbajosa present a duo set to kick off your Friday afternoon. Hailing from Darwin, Alice Cotton's music defies categorization, blending indie-folk, alt-country, and alt-rock with occasional touches of punk and country. With infectious songs that "hit you with the depth and breadth of her storytelling" (triple j), Cotton is captivating audiences across the country’s regional music scene. Her sound has drawn comparisons to Australian legends like Paul Kelly and Stella Donnelly, as well as a growing reputation for her playful on-stage banter, stunning vocals, and introspective songwriting that explores everything from family pets to queer love and an insatiable hunger for food.

Fresh off a double finalist nomination in the 2024 NT Music Awards, semi-finalist spot in the International Songwriting Competition, and the release of her self-titled debut EP, Alice Cotton is solidifying her place as one of Australia's exciting new voices. Her genre-crossing approach appeals to lovers of indie, folk, and rock, while her storytelling roots keep listeners coming back for more.

Juran

A multifaceted singer, songwriter, performer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Darwin, known for her soulful sound and innovative approach to music. With a deep exploration of love and the human experience, she weaves captivating stories through her songs. Originally from Aotearoa, Juran's musical journey began in church before she relocated to Australia in 2009. Since then, she has released a series of singles and EPs, earning notable accolades, including a 2022 Pop Song of the Year nomination. Her performances, highlighted by a standout show at the Sydney Opera House, have firmly established her place in the Australian music scene.

Juran has collaborated with prominent Northern Territory musicians and co-created the award-winning production "Manifesto of Saltwater Women." Her creative journey is ongoing, with new works on the horizon and anticipated releases set for 2025. Her latest single, "Merry Go Round," showcases her vocal prowess and experimental style, featuring local talents Zaza Zoo, and produced by James Mangohig and Caiti Baker.

Beyond her solo projects, Juran also plays guitar for the punk band 'Mr. Chrisy Mertas' and is part of the soon-to-debut hip-hop duo 'Clink' with Caiti Baker. With an ever-evolving sound, Juran's powerful vocals are drawing comparisons to artists like Jorja Smith and Solange, and her growing influence in the music world promises an exciting future. Her journey is one to watch, with each new chapter offering an unforgettable experience.

Maili Clarke

A 25 year old local singer, songwriter and performer who grew up in rural Darwin.

Maili is largely inspired by movies, media and current events with her songwriting. She loves to lean into feminist themes and the perspectives of women. She wrote her most recent song based on the story of her character Chloe in the local Tracy film (2025) directed by Kosta Hatzivalsamis. Maili’s previous local performances have included King Paddy (2024), Big Dog Salad Live (2024), Romeo and Juliet (2023), Mamma Mia (2019) and Grease (2017). Maili is so thrilled to share her songwriting in the Live on Fridays at Brownsmart.

Leash and the Dusty Boots

Leash and The Dusty Boot(s) are Alicia Scobie (vocals/guitar), and Tim Webb (backing vocals/guitar). They play an array of original tunes that sit somewhere between alternative country, blues and folk. The band's “Tennant Creek Truths” EP was released in 2020. Written and produced whilst Leash was the 2019 Creative in Residence at the Library and Archives of the NT, it features songs that highlight the many positive stories and characters that come out of this small town in the middle of the NT. Leash and the Dusty Boot(s) are excited to be able to bring these stories and songs, plus a whole bunch more, to the Live on Fridays sessions at Browns Mart in 2025.

Tribo

Tribo is a 3-Piece Filipino Rock and Alternative cover band from Darwin, Australia. The Band formed in 2023 by a group of musicians who love to jam with other bands met in local events and whose influences can be traced back with emergence of Rock and Filipino music. Their style from rock to different genre, awesome guitar solo, sweet sounding voice and energetic drumming that will make you want to rock all night and sing along to their music.

Now quoted as Talented musicians by the event organizers and supporters. Tribo performed in community big events and played on stage with thousands of audiences and will continue to share their passion and love for music.
