RESIDENCY DETAILS
Brown's Mart 2023 Artist Residency | 4–6 August 2023
Brown’s Mart called for applications from Northern Territory performing arts practitioners for our annual Artist Residency to be held at Crab Claw island Resort from 4 to 6 August 2023.
This is an opportunity for writers, choreographers, dancers, directors, producers, actors, musicians, theatre makers and designers to come together and explore new project ideas. Applications are welcome from:
- People at the start of their artistic practice
- Senior artists with significant experience
- Mid-career artists
- Collaborative teams working together on a single concept applying under the name of the lead artist on the project.
A range of highly skilled mentors from different arts practices across Australia are provided to inform project development. In previous years these have included Roslyn Oades, Kate Champion, Mike Finch, Susie Dee, Kirk Page, and Andrea James.
This 3-day, 2-night program provides a supportive creative environment to test ideas, consider new collaborations, and explore cross artform possibilities.
The form asks for words about your idea, some information about yourself, and why you’d like to participate in this opportunity. Completing this EOI will take about 20 minutes.
Expressions of interest will be reviewed by a panel who will take into consideration the calibre of the artist, the quality of the idea and a range of other balancing issues including artforms, and experience to ensure the right mix of people for the weekend.
Note: This residency is heavily subsidised. Each successful applicant will be required to pay a deposit of $400 to secure their spot, $340 of which is fully refundable after attendance at the residency and completion of the debrief survey.
Applicants experiencing financial difficulty should contact Brown’s Mart CEO Sophia Hall to discuss alternative arrangements ceo@brownsmart.com.au
Travel support is available for NT artists located outside of Darwin.
Both individuals and groups (up to 3 members) may apply to attend.
Accommodation is likely to be shared among Residency attendees.
All accommodation at the venue is accessed via stairs.
EOI's for the 2024 Residency will open next year.
Successful applicants will be notified by June 5 2023.
