New Work Program

The future of NT Performance is here

Our annual program for the development of new Territory performance, New Work is responsive and tailored to the needs of NT artists, offering paid and subsidised development opportunities throught the year.

New Work projects vary from the seed of an idea, to one-off collaborative investigations; from research and script drafting, to multiyear performance development. All New Work program opportunites are open for applications, and artists can apply for the types of support that best suit their project.

Our flagship New Work initiative, BUILD UP supports the development of performance work from a range of performance artforms and cultural practices, offering funding, time, space, and peer support from March – December each year. Artists receive up to $15,000 in funds towards the development of their work, plus office and rehearsal space, project mentoring, professional advice and advocacy.

Two paid residencies for NT performing artists to spend time at Brown’s Mart focussing on their art. Each resident will be with the company for four weeks total for solo or small group development. During each residency artists will invite the public into their residency. This invitation could be a workshop, lunch-time dance party for nearby office workers, or performance showing.

Applications open in June for Residencies from September – November 2024.

Our collaborative incubator and microperformance program pairs artists from different artform backgrounds together for one paid week in our Studio. Artists will create, share, and make with one another from Monday – Thursday, with a public culmination on the Friday. 2024 EOIs are open throughout March. For showing dates, see Performance Program pages.

May and June Experiments are on sale here.

Based on a model designed by Tasmania Performs, and delivered in partnership with Performing Lines.

The Brown’s Mart Residency is a three-day weekend intensive which connects artists with each other and with three nationally recognised mentors, nurturing exploration and risk-taking this July.

Through an immersive period of collaboration, exploration and reflection, participants from all areas of practice generate new ideas, progress projects and forge creative relationships.

Following the residency, alumni receive ongoing mentorship throughout the year.

This opportunity will next be presented in 2025.
